PASIGHAT, Oct 15: In a significant shift from merely achieving targets to ensuring complete healthcare coverage, the East Siang district administration has set an ambitious goal of achieving 100% saturation in immunization. The new directive was issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Sonalika Jiwani, during the 2nd Quarter District Task Force for Immunization (DTFI) meeting held at the DC's Conference Hall here today.
Presiding over the meeting, Jiwani, acknowledged the positive results so far but made a clear distinction between meeting targets and achieving true saturation. “We are happy with the result but not satisfied,” she stated, setting a new tone for the district's public health mission.
“Till today, we are trying only to achieve the targets. Now onwards, under my leadership, we need to change our mindset and change our working gear to achieve not just the target; we have to achieve saturation in the district,” the DC asserted. She emphasized that this drive for saturation must be all-encompassing and inclusive, leaving no one behind. “Saturation in Immunization must be irrespective of target, irrespective of children, mother, colour, local and outsider, etc.,” she added.
To realise this goal, Jiwani outlined a two-pronged approach. First, she stressed the need for extensive sensitisation programs aimed at both their own staff and the wider community to educate them on the critical importance of immunization. Second, she issued a firm directive to the Health & Wellness doctors and medical officers in-charge of Community and Primary Health Centers (CHCs and PHCs), instructing them to strictly report any health workers who are negligent in their duties.
The meeting began with detailed presentations from a team of health experts, including MO (RI) Dr. Kentai Pangkam, RRT (WHO) & DC (VHAI) Dr. Indu J., and DRCHO Dr. NidakAngu. Through a PowerPoint presentation, they informed the district's current achievements in immunization and also outlined the practical challenges faced by health teams on the ground during immunization drives.
The District Medical Officer (DMO), Dr. Yagling Perme, also addressed the gathering, underscoring the collective effort required from the entire health department to meet this renewed objective.
The meeting was also attended by DHS, BPGH Deputy Director Dr. T. Tali, BPGH Medical Superintendent Dr. Y Ringu Darang and all concerned officers and officials.
The meeting concluded with a reinforced commitment from all departments to work in synergy to transform East Siang into a fully immunized and healthier district.
