Avikanagar (Rajasthan), Oct 15 : A high-level delegation from Arunachal Pradesh, led by Gabriel D. Wangsu, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development, visited the ICAR–Central Sheep & Wool Research Institute (CSWRI) at Avikanagar, Rajasthan Tuesday to explore avenues for collaboration aimed at advancing sheep and goat rearing in the state.
Accompanied by senior officers from his department, the Minister undertook an extensive tour of the institute’s research facilities to understand modern breeding practices, innovative technologies, and sustainable models of small ruminant production.
Established decades ago, CSWRI stands as a national leader in sheep and rabbit research, contributing significantly to enhanced productivity, profitability, and resilience in small ruminant husbandry. Its technologies and breed improvement programs have benefited farmers across diverse agro-climatic regions of India.
Dr. Arun Kumar Tomar, Director of ICAR-CSWRI, gave an overview of the institute’s milestones and ongoing research initiatives. Detailed discussions followed between CSWRI scientists and officials from Arunachal Pradesh on possible areas of collaboration in breed improvement, fodder management, and field-oriented training programs.
“We are here as part of our mission to strengthen sheep and goat farming in Arunachal Pradesh. Our focus is to identify suitable breeds and technologies that can thrive in our unique climatic conditions,” said Minister Wangsu, lauding CSWRI’s pioneering work in animal husbandry. He emphasized the importance of translating research innovations into practical models that could benefit the farming communities of his state.
The delegation also visited CSWRI’s livestock units, laboratories and other research divisions to observe the institute’s scientific processes firsthand.
Minister Wangsu expressed optimism about building a long-term partnership with CSWRI, announcing that officers from Arunachal Pradesh would soon be deputed to the institute for specialized training and capacity-building initiatives.
“This visit marks the beginning of a meaningful collaboration that can bring a transformative impact to our state’s animal husbandry sector,” the minister affirmed.
He was accompanied by Hage Tari, Secretary AHVⅅ Dr. Nyokar Taipodia, Jt. Director (AHV); Dr. Keshav Sharma, DVO Namsai; Dr. Badal Biswakarma, DVO Marketing; Dr. Tago Bage, Farm Manager and Dr. Seba Yomdo, ANO, RGM.
