ITANAGAR, Oct 22: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has issued a two-month ultimatum to the State and Central Governments, demanding a permanent resolution to the long-pending Chakma-Hajong refugee issue, warning that further delay will no longer be tolerated.
Addressing the media, AAPSU President Tana Dozi Tara said, “Enough is enough — no more delay tactics. The State and Central Governments must act decisively to resolve the Chakma-Hajong issue once and for all.”
Tara also took strong exception to the recent participation of the MLA from Diyun-Bordumsa in a rally organized by the Chakma-Hajong community demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. “We strongly condemn the statement and actions of the MLA for supporting such unconstitutional demands. We caution him to refrain from encouraging activities that undermine the rights of the indigenous people of Arunachal,” the AAPSU President stated.
Warning the Chakma-Hajong community against provocation and land encroachment, AAPSU declared that any organization formed by the Chakma-Hajong people in the name of Arunachal is null and void.
Tara further cautioned, “Today they are demanding ST status; tomorrow they will demand a seat in the State Assembly. This is a direct threat to the rights and identity of indigenous Arunachalees.”
Reiterating AAPSU’s firm stand, he called upon all indigenous communities, student bodies, and NGOs to stand united with AAPSU in safeguarding the state’s interests. “For long, we have been observing the situation silently, but now we will not remain mute spectators. Arunachal’s identity is at stake,” he warned.
