“Rain , rain go away…” the nursery rhyme  came to mind while travelling to Naharlagun from Itanagar on Sunday morning. It was not that it was pouring…that happened earlier. But the road, National Highway 415, has been turned into a muddy pool what with the earth from the mountains being mined to make way for the future creature comforts of our commuters a few years from now made the roads disappear into a whirlpool of mud. And sometimes, some uncaring hi-fi people driving in their A/C SUVs and Sedans zooming fast, unmindful of the unseen potholes on the roads, splashing all the muddied water on the hapless two-wheelers, some of whom shouting at them using choicest expletives unheard by the comfortably perched hi-fi in their million-rupee worth vehicles, leaving the poor two-wheelers stuck in the middle of the road clinging to the call of their misfortunes, all flashed through in a kaleidoscopic vision this morning. A young man with a western accent was heard murmuring to his pillion rider perching dangerously on the elevated back, as if she is on the back of bridle less horse, Thayer ayent any comfah rading fella (for the ignorant..There ain’t any comfort riding fellow.)  He must have taken a lot of pains to twist his tongue painfully to pronounce so.
The southwest monsoon originating from the Arabian Sea striking the coast of Kerala on its first onslaught and moving across the country with an unforeseen and unrhythmic  force is striking with a vengeance, leaving a trail of death, destruction and miseries for millions to boot. And mind you it is only the beginning. Even as Southwest monsoon ceases by tiring out, will come its twin the Northeast monsoon in October November emptying it’s pent up furies on the north and eastern parts of the country, with cyclones and other destructive storms bellowing out of its mouth. This one has no love for human-made boundaries and through the gaps it find in the Eastern Himalyas may transcend the borders to South and South East Asia. No Look East policy can stop it from entering the uncharted course…sorry it is charted. In the land of Arun, Varun reigns supreme.
 Ah…..Johnny is correct…”rain rain go away…”
