NAMSAI, Apr 19: Months after a tragic road accident that claimed one life and seriously injured another, no arrests have been made yet, which prompted the Galo Welfare Society-Namsai Unit to lead a candlelight march demanding justice for Late Gamyir Bam here on Sunday.
Amid growing public anger over inaction by the police, the Galo Welfare Society (GWS), Namsai Unit, has stated that the candlelight march was held to raise serious concerns over the delay in justice for Late Gamyir Bam, who lost her life in a tragic road accident months ago. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made, intensifying frustration among community members.
The march was held from 2 Mile and culminated at Nimki Park, Namsai. Various community-based organizations, youth groups, and student bodies participated in the march, reflecting a united demand for accountability.
Late Gamyir Bam, wife of Goi Bam, was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident near Tengapani, close to the Forest Gate area, when a heavy dumper vehicle allegedly ran over her scooty on April last. The tragedy left her young son critically injured; he remains in a coma and is undergoing treatment at a Dibrugarh hospital, further deepening the family’s ordeal.
Voicing strong resentment over the lack of progress in the investigation, the Galo Welfare Society-Namsai unit has demanded the immediate arrest of the dumper driver responsible for the incident and adequate compensation for the injured son to support his ongoing medical treatment. The organization emphasized that justice delayed in such a grave case undermines public trust and adds to the suffering of the bereaved family.
