ITANAGAR, Sep 24: In an unnerving incident that has stunned residents, Chimpu (Itanagar) police on Wednesday exhumed the body of an unidentified woman buried beneath the kitchen floor of a bamboo house near the Power House in Chimpu-I.
According to Itanagar SDPO Kengo Dirchi, police were first alerted around 6:20 pm on Tuesday after neighbours complained to the landlord about a foul smell emanating from the house. Upon inspection, a police team from Chimpu Police Station discovered a body hidden under the kitchen floor.
Initial investigation revealed the house belongs to Kamal Pradhan, an 80-year-old self-styled spiritual practitioner locally known as a ‘baba’, who has been missing for nearly a week.
Since the discovery was made late at night, the body was exhumed on Wednesday morning in the presence of a magistrate and the family members of the suspected deceased.
“We have not yet confirmed the identity, but we suspect the body could belong to a woman who frequently visited the baba. Her family has been called to identify her through her clothing. The remains have also been sent for DNA analysis and post-mortem to determine the cause of death,” SDPO Dirchi told Media .
He further emphasized that the investigation is in its early stages, and police are exploring all possible angles. “At this point, we cannot conclude the cause of death, motive, or involvement of Kamal Pradhan,” he said.
A case has been registered at Chimpu Police Station under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 238(1) (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
