ITANAGAR, Jul 31: Months after keeping mum on the rising law and order incidents in the twin capital, Home Minister, Kumar Waii today claimed that the crime graph has in fact decreased in the twin capital.
Speaking to media at his office chamber, Waii asserted that the state police is doing a commendable job in tackling law and order situation. Citing the example of various cases which were solved by the police within couple of days in the last month, he lauded the uniformed personnel.
‘Department of Home is working to the best of its abilities to ensure that no untoward incident happens in the twin capital. Moreover, we have ordered a ban on late night DJ parties, strict vigil on traffic violators with regular nakas and using modern technology like breathalyzers to keep an eye on drunk drivers,’ the Home Minister said adding that such interventions has led to decrease in the city’s crime graph.
When quizzed about new police station and CCTV surveillance systems in the twin capital, Waii said a proposal has been sent to the Union Home Department and survey has been already done by the central team to install CCTV in the capital.
‘Such technology need huge financial involvement like Rs 30-40 crore, however if the Centre falls short in providing support, state government will try its best to install the system in phase wise manner,’ said Waii.
While appreciating the Police for busting the alleged sex racket operating in various city based hotels recently, Home Minister however expressed concern over the leakage of identity of the women suspects. He further assured to order inquiry on the issue.
Further, giving clarification on leakage of identities of the arrested women on suspicion of prostitution and for failing to mention the names of pimps, clients etc, SDPO Techi Henyir who was also present claimed that all accused were detained from Hotel ‘Ato –Ayo’ after information received from police sources. However no pimp or customers were found during the raids.
‘Without proof we cannot blatantly take the names of hotel, which may invite defamation on us,’ she reasoned while assuring to launch proper inquiry on the leakage of identities.
