Itanagar, Feb 27: Balo Raja, Minister (Urban Affairs etc) accompanied by Techi Kaso, MLA, Itanagar -cum-Advisor to Minister, Likha Nari Tadar, Mayor (IMC), Toko Babu, DC, ICR among others inspected the burial ground at Chimpu to take stock of its present scenario and for further course of action to make it functional.
The team visited the whole area and found that the burial ground requires immediate protection with proper boundary wall, all around to avoid any possible encroachment of the area. The team also visited the electric cremation unit and found that the same needs further modifications for its effective utilisation. It was noticed that bodies are being buried/cremated without any records for want of proper maintenance by its designated authorities. Since the burial ground is kept open for all the time without any watch and ward, there is every possibility for trespassing at any time without giving intimation to the IMC or obtaining proper permission for the same from the Corporation.
During the inspection, Raja informed the team that the estimate prepared for the boundary wall has been endorsed to the Planning Department for its early consideration and he will pursue the matter with both the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister for its sanction on extreme exigency. The team observed that providing the burial ground with proper gate alongwith the boundary wall is much required for avoiding any illegal burials/cremations or transgression.
The IMC has been advised to maintain proper records of the burials/cremations by posting required manpower at the site for the purpose immediately. The IMC will also issue necessary guidelines to this direction and circulate it in the local media and other social media platforms immediately for its compliance by all concerned. Later in the day, the team also visited the abattoir plant situated nearby. IMC needs to take immediate steps for getting the plant operational with all its required infrastructure for which necessary assessment has to be made and forwarded to the Govt for early approval. Here also the team felt it necessary to protect the area with proper boundary wall to avoid any encroachment in future.
