ITANAGAR, July 24: Two youths associated with the banned underground group, the United Tani Army, have voluntarily surrendered before the Arunachal Pradesh Police (APP) and embraced the mainstream to begin a new chapter in their lives.
The surrender ceremony was held in the presence of Home Minister Mama Natung and Director General of Police (DGP)  Anand Mohan.
Home Minister Mama Natung reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicate anti-national activities while keeping the doors open for those ready to return to the mainstream. “We welcome those who choose to abandon the path of insurgency. Our government has robust relief and rehabilitation policies to support them,” he stated.
Highlighting the government’s efforts, the minister shared details about the Relief and Rehabilitation Camp at Bishmak Nagar in Lower Dibang Valley, which has been operational since January 2025. The camp currently houses 30 former underground members and offers vocational training, orientation programs, and holistic support for reintegration.
Each individual completing the 36-month rehabilitation program is eligible for financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakhs, along with a monthly stipend of Rs. 6,000 throughout the course of their training.
The surrender of these two individuals is being seen as a symbolic and historic achievement for Arunachal Pradesh. It reflects the growing trust in state machinery and the government’s consistent engagement with youth under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, added Minister.

Lauding the decision of the two youths, DGP Mohan praised their courage for shunning violence and choosing the path of peace and progress. “In a democratic society, there is no space for violence. Every voice matters, and everyone deserves to be heard. I urge other misguided youths to return and be part of a peaceful and prosperous Arunachal,” he said.

The state government continues to appeal to all individuals still involved in anti-national activities to abandon violence and rejoin society. With numerous welfare schemes and rehabilitation programs in place, the door to a better and dignified life remains open, stated a release.
