ITANAGAR, Oct 3: The indefinite peaceful protest launched by the Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITWs) was officially called off on October 1, following a crucial meeting with Home Minister Mama Natung, held on the directions of Chief Minister Pema Khandu. The breakthrough came after the minister assured the protesting wardens that their long-pending grievances would be addressed promptly and justly.
Speaking to the media, representatives of the ITWs informed that they were invited to a meeting at the Home Minister’s private residence, where Advisor to Home, Muchu Mithi, was also present. “We were called by the Home Minister, and we went there. The Minister, along with his Advisor Muchu Mithi, assured us that all our grievances will be resolved. The Minister has also entrusted his Advisor to look into every demand raised by the ITWs. Mithi  assured us that he will personally process the file,” said one of the ITW representatives.
Reiterating that their demands are fair and within the ambit of government rules, the ITWs announced that they are calling off their dharna and will resume duty from Thursday. “We are not demanding anything against the rule. After receiving assurance from the Minister and his Advisor, we have decided to end our protest,” the representative added.
Earlier, Home Minister Mama Natung, in a social media post, confirmed the development, stating “Had a meeting with the Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITWs) along with Advisor Muchu Mithi,  at my private residence this morning. I requested them to call off the dharna and resume duty from today onwards. The Government will look into the matter as per their grievances.”
The ITWs had launched their indefinite dharna demanding absorption into the Home Guard service — a promise they say was earlier made by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, even the decision was also taken in the state cabinet to create the Home Guard.
