ITANAGAR, Mar 13: The Arunachal Pradesh Trade Union Federation (APTUF) and the All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) have issued a 12-day ultimatum to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, demanding the immediate release of pending monthly wages of casual and contingency employees across the state.
Speaking to the media during a press conference, APTUF Secretary General Kenkar Yomcha, informed that, in a joint memorandum submitted to the Chief Secretary in Itanagar, the unions expressed serious concern over the sudden stoppage of wages for contingency-paid employees working in various government departments and work divisions.
According to the memorandum, casual workers and contingency employees have been performing their duties with sincerity and contributing significantly to the state’s development, yet their salaries have reportedly been halted without any logical justification.
The unions also referred to a meeting held on 6 February 2026 under the chairmanship of the Finance Commissioner, where a decision was reportedly taken to stop payment of wages to casual labour and contingency staff working under several government divisions. The unions warned that such a move would severely affect poor workers who depend entirely on these wages for survival.
Highlighting the rising cost of living, the Secretary General stated that prices of essential commodities such as rice, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, milk and house rent have increased sharply, making it extremely difficult for workers and their families to survive without regular salaries.
The unions emphasized that if any appointment of contingency staff was made beyond the sanctioned strength, the responsibility lies with the authorities concerned and workers should not be forced to bear the financial burden.
Issuing a strong warning, the Secretary General stated that if the state government fails to release the pending wages within 12 days from the issuance of the memorandum, they will be compelled to launch democratic movements across the state without further notice.
