Itanagar, Jul 07: The Arun Khabar, a new newspaper, was officially launched today in Itanagar in the presence of political leader, senior journalists, government officials, community leaders, and members of the press fraternity. The launch was marked by traditional performances, ceremonial proceedings, and speeches highlighting the importance of responsible journalism in the state.
Minister for IPR and Industries Nyato Dukam, who attended as Chief Guest, underscored the role of media as one of the pillars of democracy. “Politics and media are two active pillars that support the judiciary and executive. I am committed to doing whatever I can for the growth of media in Arunachal,” he said. He urged journalists to uphold ethics in their reporting and expressed confidence in The Arun Khabar, calling publisher Rumak Jomoh a hardworking and sincere individual. Dukam added that the IPR department under the Pema Khandu-led government will soon implement the Journalist Pension Scheme and Digital Media Advertisement Policy—welfare measures not introduced in most other states.
Arunachal Press Club President Dodum Yangfo congratulated Jomoh and his team for launching the newspaper at a challenging time for print media. “This bold step will provide opportunities to young local journalists,” he said, while also urging the minister to expedite implementation of the media welfare schemes approved in 2020.
IPR Assistant Director Radhe Tajung stressed the importance of balanced reporting, cautioning that one-sided narratives could harm public discourse. Deputy Director Denga Bengia said launching a newspaper in Arunachal remains a bold move given the financial and operational hurdles. Director of IPR Gijum Tali called media the mirror of society and assured the department’s continued support, noting that advertisement distribution is now managed through a roster system to ensure fairness.
Speaking on the occasion, publisher Rumak Jomoh said, “The Arun Khabar is not just a newspaper but a platform for voices across Arunachal. Our mission is to deliver fair, credible, and local-centric news that matters to the people.” He thanked the dignitaries for their presence and support and assured that his team is committed to upholding the principles of ethical journalism.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by high tea and informal interaction among guests. During the occasion community leader Gangang Jomoh, Chairman, Jomoh Welfare Society (JWS) also took part.
