Tawang, Aug 8: In a momentous celebration marking the historic success of India’s National Space Programme, the preliminary National Space Day was observed with great enthusiasm at Kalawangpo Hall, Tawang, commemorating the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander on the Lunar South Pole on August 17, 2023.
Deputy Commissioner of Tawang, Namgyal Angmo, in her inaugural address, emphasised the importance of science and scientific thinking in daily life and urged students to take a keen interest in science subjects. She inspired them to aim high and aspire to become scientists, adding that the significance of the day’s programme should not remain within the walls of the hall but be carried forward in the lives of all participants.
The event also featured Dr. Jayasimha, Project Director of Chandrayaan-5, ISRO, Bengaluru, as the Guest of Honour and Resource Person. He delivered an engaging and informative lecture highlighting ISRO’s legacy and achievements, complemented by an audio-visual presentation that captivated the audience.
Dr. Jonali Goswami, another resource person from NESAC, spoke about capacity building and outreach initiatives, further enriching the programme’s educational value.
As part of the celebration, a quiz competition on Space Science was organized, with enthusiastic participation from various schools.
GSS Town emerged as the winner, followed by GSS Bomba as the runner-up.
The event witnessed the presence of officials including the Director and Deputy Directors of the Department of Science & Technology, school principals, teachers, and a large number of students, creating an atmosphere of learning and inspiration.
The programme concluded with the distribution of trophies and certificates to the winners of the quiz competition and participation certificates to all student attendees.
The final celebration of National Space Dayis scheduled to be held in New Delhi, marking the culmination of nationwide events celebrating India’s space milestones.
