ITANAGAR, Jul 7:  The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Monday staged a peaceful dharna at the Directorate of Sports office in Chimpu, raising strong concerns over what it called the persistent negligence and mismanagement within the state’s sports sector. The protest drew hundreds of students and youth activists, who carried placards and chanted slogans demanding immediate government action to revive and strengthen the sports ecosystem in Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking to the media, Sports Secretary AAPSU, Zentle Mosu criticised the state government's alleged inaction in developing sports infrastructure, appointing qualified personnel, and ensuring transparent administration. The union accused the concerned authorities of failing to support grassroots-level sports initiatives, thereby demoralising aspiring athletes across the state. 
AAPSU highlighted the urgent need for appointment of regular District Sports Officers in all districts to enable structured planning and execution of sports programs. It also emphasized the need to revamp the Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy by recruiting qualified coaches in key sporting disciplines to nurture local talent. Moreover, the union called for an audit and public disclosure of sports fund utilization to ensure accountability and transparency in the department,he added.
In response to the protest, the Department of Sports issued a clarification stating that the State Cabinet has already approved 20 posts for District Sports Officers, 10 posts for coaches, and 4 posts for wardens. Director of Sports, Tadar Appa, informed that construction has already begun at the permanent site of the State Sports Academy at Miao. The department further informed that, in an effort to facilitate coordination and address the demands raised by AAPSU, the union’s Sports Secretary Zentle Mosu has been assigned to work closely with Assistant Director of Sports, Karbia Dodum, who will oversee implementation and follow-up action.
While acknowledging the department's announcement, AAPSU leaders reiterated that only timely and concrete implementation will restore the faith of the sporting community. The union affirmed that it will continue to vigilantly monitor the progress to ensure that the promises made translate into real reforms on the ground.
