BOMDILA, Oct 14: Education minister Taba Tedir said that the State Government led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu is committed to enhance the education sector through various policies and measures.
Tedir emphasized the substantial progress in the field of education, highlighting the remarkable increase in the number of government schools, private colleges, government colleges, private universities, a state university, and a central university within Arunachal Pradesh.
The education minister was speaking at  the silver jubilee celebration of Shanti Deva Vidyalaya, Bomdila  which took place today at the GRL Monastery in Bomdila.
While welcoming the gathering, Tashi Tsering, Secretary of the Buddhist Cultural Preservation Society (BCPS), provided insights into the establishment of Shanti Deva Vidyalaya (SDV) in Bomdila, driven by the initiative and vision of His Eminence The 13th Tsona Gontse Rinpoche.
As the Chief Guest, Tedir lauded Shanti Deva Vidyalaya (SDV), Bomdila and the Buddhist Cultural and Preservation Society (BCPS), Bomdila for their selfless dedication to nurture students and  achieving academic excellence.
Tedir in his address clarified the purpose of declaring 2021-22 as the "Year of Education" – aimed at raising awareness among the public, parents, and society. He addressed the misconception that sending students to school absolves parents of their responsibilities, emphasizing that society's progress relies on education.
Tedir also shed light on the New Education Policy and its diverse curriculum.
He stressed the significance of regional languages and mother tongue in the school curriculum, mentioning that the Education Department will submit a proposal to the government to increase language teachers' salaries.
Furthermore, he encouraged the West Kameng District Administration to launch a school adoption program where officers would each adopt a school.
He highlighted the "No Bag Day" initiative, suggesting that officials should visit schools on Saturdays to share knowledge and field experiences with students.
Regarding the memorandum submitted by BDPS, Bomdila, Tedir assured complete support for the institution's smooth functioning and effective educational services.
MLA Lumla, Tsering Lhamu praised the BCPS and SDV, Bomdila, for their enduring support and collaboration in educating students in the region over the past 25 years. She emphasized the value of education and literacy, adding that education in values is equally essential.
Lhamu underlined the government's decision to regularize 500 ISSE teachers and increase their salaries as a testament to the government's commitment to the education sector.
Expressing the need for educational transformation in society, she envisioned a community with more bookstores than wine shops. She expressed concerns about students' involvement in substance abuse and called upon parents and teachers to closely monitor their children. She also urged students to abstain from narcotic substances.
Lhamu also addressed the issue of plastic waste management, recommending the implementation of initiatives similar to the WWA NGO in Tawang District, which collects and reuses plastic waste. The same initiative can be implemented to maintain cleanliness in West Kameng District.
In his keynote address, Dondup Tsering, President of BCPS, shared the history of SDV's transformation from a modest Assam Type building to a fully-fledged institution. He also celebrated the achievements of SDV alumni.
DC West Kameng Akriti Sagar  congratulated SDV, Bomdila, for reaching the remarkable milestone of 25 years in the noble pursuit of education.
The event featured the release of a Souvenir Book and diverse cultural performances, including the Yak Dance, cultural dances, songs, and more.
