Itanagar, May 31: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Regional Office, Itanagar, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, organised a Special Outreach Programme (SOP) on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day at JNK Public School, Itanagar today. The programme aimed to create awareness among students and the general public about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and to promote a tobacco-free lifestyle.
In his welcome address, Prasanta Das, Publicity Assistant cum In-Charge, CBC, Regional Office, Itanagar, emphasised the importance of educating young minds about the adverse impacts of tobacco on physical and mental health, finances, and social well-being. He urged students to make informed decisions and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Rakesh Doley, Correspondent, All India Radio, Itanagar, who attended the event as the Resource Person, debunked common myths associated with tobacco use and highlighted the severe consequences of addiction. He explained how tobacco products exert control over users and offered practical strategies for resisting peer pressure and overcoming dependence.
Shijoy Kurian, Principal, JNK Public School, stressed the collective responsibility of society in curbing tobacco use. He called upon parents to set an example by de-addicting themselves and encouraged youth to actively participate in spreading awareness about the long-term dangers of tobacco consumption.
As part of the programme, students of JNK Public School presented engaging performances including recitations, extempore speeches, and a thematic skit to mark World No Tobacco Day. CBC, RO Itanagar also organized an extempore essay writing competition, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from students. Winners of the competition were felicitated with prizes.
The event concluded with the distribution of refreshments to all attendees and dignitaries, reinforcing the message of unity and commitment towards a tobacco-free society.
