ITANAGAR, Sep 27: In a stunning revelation that has shaken the ongoing protest of the Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITWs), an RTI report has exposed the existence of 44 unidentified names in the official service list — sparking allegations of manipulation and raising serious questions about transparency in the system, informed Itanagar Traffic Warden.
Speaking to the media ITW informed that, the revelation came after well-wishers filed an RTI seeking details of serving ITW, which disclosed 188 names — a figure that shocked the serving ITWs, who assert that only 145 legitimate wardens have been on duty for the past 15 years. “We don’t know who these 44 people are. Our fight is not against them, but the government must first absorb the genuine 145 wardens into the Home Guard service as promised,” said one of the protest leaders.
The ITWs, who have been staging a peaceful sit-in dharna at the Tennis Court, Indira Gandhi Park, expressed frustration over the government’s silence despite repeated assurances. “We have been performing our duties tirelessly for years, yet our demand for absorption remains ignored. This is injustice,” they lamented.
With patience wearing thin, the wardens have now warned of intensifying their agitation. “If our demands are not met, our families and even our children will join the protest from Monday. This is a fight for our future,” they declared.
The explosive RTI findings have amplified the call for a thorough investigation into the mysterious inclusion of 44 names and put pressure on the state government to fulfil its promise of regularising the services of long-serving ITWs. Protesters say they will not back down until justice is delivered.
