Itanagar, Aug 16: The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with pride and patriotic fervour at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, on August 15. Arunachal Pradesh, Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), hoisted the Tricolour, and received the Guard of Honour presented by the Echo Company of the 33rd Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, attached to Raj Bhavan.
In his address, Parnaik extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes to the people of Arunachal Pradesh on this historic occasion. He remarked that India’s Independence Day marks the birth of the world’s largest democracy and paid tribute to the brave sons and daughters of India who made the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedom.
The Governor reverently recalled the values that guided our nation’s founding fathers, along with the contributions of our freedom fighters, including Matmur Jamoh, Moje Riba, Moji Riba, and many others who played crucial roles in the struggle for independence.
The Governor said that Arunachal Pradesh stands in an era of rapid change and immense opportunity. He said that our State guided the vision of Viksit Bharat, must aspire for a self-reliant, prosperous India, one that leads the world, ensures quality education for every child, dignity for every citizen, and opportunities in every village, town, and city.
Parnaik urged the people to instill the ‘Nation First’ spirit. He said that true patriotism is to accept our responsibilities and working sincerely to make our nation cleaner, stronger, and better. He called upon all to pledge for cleanliness, reminding that a clean India is a healthy India, and a healthy India is a strong India.
As part of his ongoing commitment and effort to promote cleanliness and best practices of hygiene and sanitation amongst the officials of the Raj Bhavan, the Governor presented awards to the winners of the ‘Swachh Ghar’ competition, applauding their exemplary efforts in keeping their residence and its surroundings neat, organized, and welcoming. Smt Phurpa Zomba, Bearer, received the first prize, while Smt Ranjumoni Borah, MTS, received the second prize. Smt Monju Damin, Contingency staff, received the third prize.
The Governor and the First Lady of the State,  Anagha Parnaik distributed sweets to the participating school children and officials on the joyous occasion. Officers and staff of Raj Bhavan, along with department officials attached to Raj Bhavan, as well as students and teachers from the Government School, participated in the celebration.
