BANDERDEWA, Aug 31: In a major breakthrough against inter-state vehicle theft, Banderdewa Police busted a bike-lifting gang, recovering three stolen two-wheelers and apprehending four accused involved in repeated thefts across Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
During naka checking duty between 12:00 am and 6:00 am at the Banderdewa check gate, a Yamaha R15 motorcycle suspiciously sped through the gate without stopping, followed by a Royal Enfield Hunter making a sudden U-turn before reaching the naka point. Meanwhile, a scooty (AS12AK5904) was intercepted, and as the rider failed to produce valid documents, the vehicle was seized for verification.
At around 5:05 pm, the rider of the scooty, identified as Nobo Gohain @ Nobo Hussain, R/o Sootea (Assam), was detained at Banderdewa PS. During interrogation, he confessed to being part of a bike-lifting gang and revealed the involvement of his associates. Acting swiftly, police recovered the abandoned Royal Enfield Hunter near DTNT petrol pump.
Based on his leads, police detained Marli Gadi (19 yrs), R/o Seijosa, Pakke-Kesang (A.P.), rider of Yamaha R15, Md. Ricky Ahmed (25 yrs), R/o Sootea, Biswanath (Assam), rider of Royal Enfield Hunter.
Further interrogation revealed that another stolen Yamaha R15, lifted from Itanagar, was kept in Assam. Acting promptly, a police team led by Insp. Kipa Hamak (OC PS Banderdewa), with SI B. Pegu, SI K.B. Singh, ASI A. Rajbhar, ASI S.K. Tiwari, and Ct. U. Gogoi, under direct supervision of Rishi Longdo, SDPO Nlg, raided Hawaijan, Assam. The operation led to the recovery of the stolen Yamaha R15 (AR05A-0990) from Pradyup Bhuyan (22 yrs),  R/o Bara Bhuyan, Sootea, Assam, who was also arrested.
With this, three stolen two-wheelers have been recovered and four accused persons apprehended. As the Royal Enfield Hunter was already reported stolen at Naharlagun PS, the accused are being handed over for further legal action. Police anticipate more recoveries as interrogation continues.
Superintendent of Police ICR Naharlagun, Dr. Nyelam Nega, urged citizens to always lock their vehicles, carry valid documents, and immediately report any suspicious activities relating to vehicle theft to the nearest police station.
