PASIGHAT, Sep 30: Along with the rest of the country, the Durga Puja celebration here in Pasighat, East Siang district started on Monday with great pomp and show.
The town wore a festive look with illuminated and decorated Puja pandals drawing devotees amidst the chanting of hymns starting from September 29 to October 2.
Among the various Durga Puja celebration committees of Pasighat, the one at GTC Children Park, Durga Puja Committee-2025, led by Tagom Padung marked its 2nd year celebration with a festive theme: Say No to Drugs.
Besides the usual festivities, the GTC Durga Puja Committee incorporated the awareness on drug addiction which is a general public concern today amongst the youths. The committee is also conducting various cultural competitions for all communities, tribes and regions.
Meanwhile, at the APP Line, Raneghat and  market area's Balaji Mandir, the Durga Puja Committees have reported that their Durga Puja celebration is passing off with great pomp and gaiety. Across Pasighat, a total of 12 Puja pandals have been erected with idols  of Durga Maa where celebration is going on with full prayers.
Local Pasighat East MLA, Tapi Darang and State BJP President, Kaling Moyong also visited all the Puja pandals across Pasighat and extended greetings to the people. MLA Darang said that the Pasighat town has been celebrating the Durga Puja festival since long ago where believers of all religions participate with full festivity.
BJP State President, Moyong also rued the same and said that he has been celebrating the Durga Puja since his young days. He also said that Pasighat is a mini India where people of religions celebrate festivals together. 
The district administration and police have tightened their measures to ensure a smooth celebration of the festival. Traffic movement has been strictly regulated in the township to facilitate pedestrian access, with the Puja committees maintaining close coordination with the police to thwart any subversive attempts by anti-social elements.
