ITANAGAR, Feb 18: The Jan Andolan Anti-Corruption Movement of Arunachal, led by social activist Nabam Tagam, has intensified its campaign seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, alleging large-scale irregularities in the awarding and execution of public works contracts.
Addressing the media, Tagam claimed that a long-pending case related to the Chief Minister, allegedly under legal scrutiny since 2007, is now nearing its final stage before the Supreme Court of India. He expressed hope that the apex court’s judgment, expected in the coming weeks, would bring clarity and ensure justice.
The Andolan has demanded a court-monitored investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), calling for an independent and transparent probe into alleged irregularities in the allotment of work contracts to his kith & kins and other family members, claiming it is against the office of interest. The group alleged that contracts were awarded in violation of established procedures and sought a thorough inquiry into the matter.
Tagam asserted that the movement would continue its agitation until the Chief Minister steps down to allow what it terms a “fair and impartial investigation.” He further informed that memorandums have been submitted to the Prime Minister, the President of India, and the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, urging intervention and action over the alleged corruption.
Tagam also stated that they are closely monitoring the legal proceedings and urged authorities to uphold accountability and transparency in governance.
No official response from the Chief Minister’s Office was available at the time of filing this report.
