PASIGHAT, Jul 23: Mebo MLA, Oken Tayeng and East Siang District Dy. Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani visited the sites where Oil India Ltd is carrying out oil exploration at Mer village under Mebo Sub-Division where huge oil deposits have been found.
Both the visiting dignitaries said that locals were fortunate, as the oil giant Oil India Ltd has reportedly found a huge deposit of oil reserves in the area during their last oil exploration survey.
“Mer and Gadum villages which remained neglected for many decades will become a major attraction and rich areas of Mebo Sub-Division once oil extraction and refinery works begin. Each household will receive the benefits from the oil extraction if final oil drilling begins and oil reserves are found in that area,” said the MLA while appealing the locals to cooperate.
He also informed about the recent meeting where Chief Minister Pema Khandu held a discussion with the authorities of Oil India at Itanagar on March 14 earlier this year.
Speaking about the development,, Arunav Baruah, Chief General Manager of Oil India Ltd. (Frontier Exploration) said that the process is in its initial stage and identification of the possible oil deposit sites have been done as per seismic data of the underground. “As of now studies and datas show possible presence of a good reserve of hydrocarbons (oil) in the region, but unless roads and bridges are built no further drilling is possible,” added Baruah.
The CGM Oil India, said that construction of bridge over Taro-Tamak river and good roads till the area were discussed during the meeting with the state’s Chief Minister, Pema Khandu and area MLA Oken Tayeng.
“We are also pressing the DoNER Ministry for early sanctioning of funds to the state government of Arunachal Pradesh for timely construction of bridge over Taro-Tamak river and also for road construction. Unless proper roads and bridges are there, the shipment and transportation of heavy machinery for drilling in the oil exploration sites are not possible. We are hopeful that our activities will begin by November next and Oil India will also invest funds for further exploration and drilling,” added Baruah.
