Itanagar, Sep 24: The NSS Units of Dera Natung Government College Itanagar (DNGCI) observed NSS Day Celebration 2025 with an Induction, Orientation and Career Counselling Programme held on Wednesday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of newly enrolled volunteers for the session 2025–2026.
Delivering the career counselling session, Dr. M.Q. Khan, Principal, DNGCI, highlighted the growing demand for NSS volunteers across NGOs, government and private sectors, and even international organisations like the UNO. He stated that DNGCI’s NSS and NCC units have been among the largest manpower contributors in supporting state government and civil society programmes.
Dr. Khan spoke about the importance of mental and physical health in shaping careers of today’s youth, cautioning against the negative impacts of social media addiction. He advised volunteers to instead utilise social media as a “digital library of knowledge.” Emphasising on time as the most valuable non-renewable resource, he encouraged students to maintain discipline, focus on one’s abilities and interests, and begin career preparation early, whether for UPSC, APPSC or other competitive examinations. He also stressed the value of academic performance, extra effort during preparation, and the need to choose friends wisely. The session concluded with an engaging interactive question–answer session.
The Induction on NSS was conducted by Dr. Kipa Roni, NSS Programme Officer, who briefed the new volunteers on the history, objectives (“Not Me, But You”), organisational structure, work hours, regular activities, special camps, and the adopted village “Bath Village, Itanagar Circle.”
Botem Moyong, NSS Programme Officer, created awareness on the My Bharat Portal, explaining its registration process and benefits for NSS volunteers.
Meanwhile, Phuntso Gombu, NSS Programme Officer, underlined the importance of discipline within NSS, including maintaining attendance and regular communication with programme officers. He further encouraged volunteers to work towards making the NSS units single-use plastic free, with special emphasis on avoiding plastic water bottles.
