Ruksin, Feb 22: In a powerful and desperate stand to protect their lives, land, and future generations, the mothers of Ngorlung–Ralung Village have announced an indefinite hunger strike beginning February 23, at the Ralung Village Community Hall. The protest demands the immediate and permanent closure or shifting of the hazardous ferro-silicon factory operating at the Industrial Growth Centre (IGC), Niglok.
The factory, run by M/s Aether Alloys LLP, is alleged to have caused severe environmental and health risks to the surrounding villages. The protesting mothers state that continued operation of the plant has endangered the lives of local residents, particularly women, children, and the elderly, and has created an atmosphere of fear and suffering.
The women have categorically declared that no amount of industrial profit can justify the destruction of human lives. They assert that thousands of innocent lives must not be sacrificed for the monetary gain of a few, and warn that continued inaction by the authorities will only deepen public outrage.
This hunger strike will continue until the Government of Arunachal Pradesh gives a clear, written commitment to permanently shut down or relocate the factory away from human habitation. The protest is peaceful but resolute, reflecting the pain, anger, and determination of grieving mothers who refuse to remain silent any longer.
The mothers have appealed to the government, civil society, and concerned authorities to intervene immediately and prevent further harm, stating that this movement is a fight for survival, not a choice.
