Tezpur, Jun 1: The Birth Anniversary of Late Lummer Dai, the Doyen of Arunachal Pradesh Literature and Journalism was celebrated by the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society for the first time in Assam. The 85th birth anniversary was celebrated at the Lummer Dai Smriti Bhawan in Tezpur in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Pensioner’s Association, Tezpur in presence of large gatherings both from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Prithiviraj Rava, MLA Tezpur was the Chief Guest and Brindaban Goswami, former Education Minister of Assam was the Guest of Honour.
The celebration was marked by conferring the prestigious Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award 2025 to renowned author Ramchandra Chutia, a prominent writer who had served at interior places of the state as a teacher who wrote 29 books in English and Assamese mostly on different aspects of tribal life he had experienced during his stay in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Award contained a citation, a memento, a packet of books and cash of rupees fifty thousand only. Speaking on the occasion, Prithiraj Rava, the Chief Guest said that he will hand over a documentary movie made on “Kanyar Mulya”, a masterpiece novel written by Lummer Dai where he appeared as a lead character to APLS so that it can be played in various meetings to be held in Arunachal Pradesh. Further he requested the APLS to translate a chapter from the book of "Bishnu Rabha Rachanawali" with a title "Bane Kebang” which was written on various communities of Arunachal Pradesh.
Further speaking on the occasion, Bridaban Goswami termed Lummer Dai as a tall pillar of unity in diversity. He also said that through his writings Lummer Dai highlighted the challenges of tribal life of Arunachal Pradesh and advocated for reforms. Goswami also suggested for better relation between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh not only in social and cultural terms, but in economic activities too.
Luminous Lummer Dai Literary Award 2025 Awardee Ramchandra Chutia in his speech highlighted his long journey and relationship with Arunachal Pradesh. Mr. Chutia, who authored more than 29 books appealed the citizens of both the states to maintain peace and extend helping hand to each other for all out growth in every social sector with mutual trust and affection.
The welcome speech was given by Mukul Pathak, General Secretary of APLS while Jadav Sharma offered Vote of Thanks. However, due to health issues, APLS President Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi could not attend the programme today.
