ZIRO, Aug 21: In a significant step towards enhancing child health and immunization coverage, the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign was officially inaugurated in Lower Subansiri district by the District Commissioner Oli Perme. The event marked the launch of a crucial public health initiative aimed at protecting children from Measles and Rubella.
The inauguration ceremony was organised by key health officials, including the District Medical Officer (DMO), District Reproductive and Child Health Officer In-charge (DRCHO I/c), Medical Superintendent (MS), RRT-WHO and other program officers demonstrating strong leadership and commitment to community welfare. The DC led the proceedings by cutting the ribbon on the vaccine carrier, symbolizing the rollout of the campaign. Following this, she administered an Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) booster dose along with Vitamin A supplementation to a young beneficiary, highlighting the hands-on approach to ensure the program's success.
The MR campaign is part of a broader national effort to eliminate measles and rubella, focusing on vaccinating children in the age group of 9 months to 5 years. This initiative is expected to cover schools, anganwadi centers, and remote villages across the district, with special emphasis on hard-to-reach areas to achieve maximum coverage.
Speaking on the occasion, DMO Dr. Millo Kunya emphasized the importance of community participation in making the campaign a success. The administration has assured that all necessary precautions, including cold chain maintenance and trained healthcare workers, are in place to ensure safe and effective immunization.
Residents of Lower Subansiri are encouraged to bring their children to the nearest vaccination sites and support this life-saving effort. The campaign is set to continue from August 21-27, with monitoring teams in place to track progress and address any challenges.
