Itanagar, Jan 21: Embodying the true spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, the State Foundation Days of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura were celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, on January 21. The occasion turned into a warm celebration of unity, culture, and shared heritage among the Northeastern States.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), along with the First Lady of the State, Anagha Parnaik, participated in the programme alongside people from Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
The Governor extended his greetings to the people of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura, and conveyed good wishes on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He expressed a deep sense of affection and admiration for these sister States, acknowledging the enduring bonds of friendship and shared heritage that unite the people of the Northeast.
Recalling the rich and vibrant histories of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura, the Governor observed that these States share many similarities with Arunachal Pradesh. He said that their close association is rooted in a beautiful mosaic of cultural diversity, age-old traditions, and the abundance of pristine green landscapes that define the region. These common threads, he said, reflect a shared way of life that values harmony with nature, community living, and mutual respect.
The Governor further remarked that celebrating the foundation days of other States goes beyond a ceremonial observance. He said that it reinforces the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ by deepening understanding, fostering unity, and strengthening emotional bonds among people across State boundaries.
The Governor thanked the people of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura for their valuable contributions to the social, cultural, and developmental progress of Arunachal Pradesh. He expressed hope that these ties of cooperation and goodwill would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
The highlight of the function was a vibrant showcase of traditional dances and cultural performances presented by the people of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura, which brought the rich cultural tapestry of the Northeast alive on stage. The Manipuri community of the State mesmerized the gathering with graceful renditions of ‘Amambagi Khutsem’, ‘Khamba Thoibi’, and the famed ‘Hallaklo’, each performance echoing the elegance, devotion, and storytelling heritage of Manipur. The Meghalaya and Tripura teams, comprising mainly students of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), presented a colourful and soulful repertoire that beautifully reflected the diversity of their homelands. Their performances included Rabindra Sangeet Lokgeeti, the energetic ‘Hojagiri’, a folk dance of Tripura’s Reang (Bru) tribe, and ‘Ri Lum’, a Khasi song accompanied by a vibrant group dance representing the various tribes of Meghalaya.
Children from Gyan Mission attended the programme as special guests of the Governor, adding warmth and joy to the occasion.
The Governor, along with the First Lady of the State, hosted a High Tea for the invitees and children over a high tea. They listened to their experiences and encouraged them to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination.
