Itanagar, Jan 15: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.), participated in the colourful kite-flying festival at Itanagar on January 14, celebrating the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. Organized by the Governor’s Secretariat, the festival witnessed the participation of a number of people along with senior officials, creating a warm, festive, and inclusive atmosphere where families, elders, and youth came together in a spirit of joy and togetherness.
Celebrated with great enthusiasm, the festival beautifully reflected India’s rich traditional and social ethos. Kite flying, observed across many regions during Makar Sankranti, holds deep cultural and symbolic significance. It marks the sun’s northward journey, symbolizing renewal, gratitude, and new beginnings. Traditionally, the sight of colourful kites in the sky represents freedom, rising aspirations, and the collective hope for prosperity, harmony, and happiness.
Beyond its cultural importance, the event also highlighted the social value of shared celebrations. It encouraged outdoor recreation, especially among the youth, promoting physical activity, community bonding, and healthy social interaction.
