Arunachal Pradesh Governor meets Sikkim counterpart
Itanagar, Jan 13: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.), has extended warm greetings to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu and Pongal.
In his message, the Governor said that Makar Sankranti heralds the sacred Uttarayana, six months revered as highly auspicious in our spiritual tradition. On this holy occasion, devotees offer prayers to the Sun God and take sacred dips in revered rivers such as the Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri, and our own holy Lohit River, seeking purification, prosperity, and well-being, he said.
The Governor further said that each year, thousands of devotees and pilgrims gather at the sacred Parasuram Kund to take part in the traditional Makar Sankranti Mela, reflecting deep faith and timeless tradition. On behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, I extend a warm welcome to all pilgrims and visitors, and convey my heartfelt wishes for a joyous, peaceful, and spiritually enriching Makar Sankranti, he said in his message.
The Governor also conveyed his good wishes to the Assamese community in the State and to the people of Assam, the age-old friendly neighbouring State, where Magh Bihu is cherished as one of the most important cultural festivals.
In his message, the Governor said that Magh Bihu is deeply rooted in our agrarian traditions. It marks the joyful culmination of the harvest season and reflects the spirit of gratitude, sharing, and community living. The festival brings people together through traditional rituals and community feasts, as an expression of thanksgiving to the Almighty for a bountiful harvest and the promise of prosperity ahead. I join all those celebrating Magh Bihu and pray for a year filled with abundance, harmony, and progress for the entire region, he said.
Parnaik also conveyed his heartfelt felicitations to the Tamil brethren who live and serve in Arunachal Pradesh in various capacities, enriching the State’s social and cultural fabric through their dedication and hard work.
In his message, the Governor said that Pongal, the harvest festival of gratitude, celebrates the sacred bond between nature, farmers, and society. It is a time to offer thanks to the Sun God for abundance, to honour the dignity of labour, and to share happiness with family and community. The festival’s enduring message of thankfulness, harmony, and respect for nature beautifully reflects the spirit of unity in diversity that defines our nation and our State, he said.
May this auspicious festival usher in happiness, prosperity, and renewed hope in every home, the Governor wished in his message.
