Itanagar, Aug 31:The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Itanagar, hosted “Shaam-e-Nazm”, an evening of poetry and literary performances, organized and presented by its students.
The event served as a vibrant platform for self-expression, blending heartfelt poetry, soulful music, and creative performances.
The program was graced by Deputy Registrar Utsav Parmar, GPM Chairperson Taba Kunya, GPM member Taba Toka, and Dean In-charge Bishnu Dev Halder, who were warmly introduced by the students. The gathering saw active participation from the teaching and non-teaching staff, along with FTII students, making it an inclusive evening.
The evening began with an opening speech by Deputy Registrar Utsav Parmar, who spoke about the art of poetry and humor. He emphasized that while performance is important, equally vital is listening to oneself while performing, a skill that refines authenticity and delivery.
Students of FTII-Itanagar showcased their creativity through solo and group performances. The poems touched on themes of young love, first crushes, heartbreaks, memorable places, empowerment, and friendships—offering a deep reflection of youth and memory. Many students shared original works, and organizers highlighted the importance of crediting writers when presenting borrowed poems.
To add variety, the program also featured musical performances, where students sang and played instruments, creating a lively blend of rhythm and verse.
The last performance of the evening was a poem recited by Deputy Registrar Utsav Parmar, who encouraged participation from all levels of the institute—from faculty to support staff, including chaukidars—in future programs. He also emphasized the need to carry creative skills beyond the institute, promoting talent and building collaborations.
The evening concluded with the vote of thanks by the Dean in-charge Bishnu Dev Halder, who thanked faculty and staff for their efforts in organising the event at short notice and the students for their overwhelming participation. He also sought everyone's support in making "Shaam-e-Nazm” a regular event of the institute in the coming days.
With its mix of authenticity, creativity, and community spirit, Shaam-e-Nazm left a lasting impression on everyone present, setting the tone for more such cultural initiatives at FTII Itanagar.
