NAHARLAGUN, Sep 6: The family of a patient who died during treatment at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun, has alleged gross medical negligence. A 22-year-old woman, Bengia Ama Gora, had undergone a C-section surgery on September 2 and was admitted to the ICU thereafter, where she passed away today.
The grieving family has alleged gross medical negligence by doctors and nurses, holding them responsible for the untimely death. In a strong move, they have refused to take possession of the body until action is taken against those responsible.
Her brother, Bengia Lali, has lodged an FIR at Naharlagun Police Station, accusing TRIHMS staff of serious lapses during and after the surgery. He claimed that Ama Gora’s condition deteriorated rapidly, but doctors failed to intervene in time.
Police have confirmed receipt of the complaint, stating that a formal investigation is likely to follow. TRIHMS authorities, however, have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
Reacting to the incident, Health Minister Biyuram Wahge expressed deep grief and assured the bereaved family that justice would be delivered. “An inquiry committee will be constituted, and a thorough probe will be carried out,” the minister said.
The shocking incident has sparked outrage and reignited public debate over healthcare standards, accountability, and patient safety in Arunachal Pradesh. Local organizations and citizens have demanded an impartial probe to ensure such tragedies do not recur.
