Tezu, Aug 28: The second phase of the three-day Community Volunteers Training on Basic Disaster Response wrapped up at Amik Ringya Hall, Tezu, on Wednesday.
The inaugural session was graced by  Kesang Ngurup Damo Deputy Commissioner Lohit, along with the Sana Matum, Commandant of 25 BN ITBP, who delivered motivating remarks and set an inspiring tone for the training.
65 volunteers from the Tezu and Sunpura circles participated in this phase. This follows the first phase, conducted from August 18 to 20, in Wakro, where 35 volunteers had already been trained—bringing the total number of volunteers undergoing disaster readiness training to 100 across the two phases.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), I/C DDMO and the Trainers conducted interactive sessions on Dos and Don’ts during earthquakes, landslides, floods, thunderstorms and lightning, Basic First Aid, Fundamentals of
Search and Rescue, BLS and CPR, rope rescue and water rescue technique. The Officer-in-Charge (OC), Tezu Fire Station, led hands-on drills and guidance on fire safety precautions and response.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of readiness in an age of unpredictable weather patterns driven by global warming. He remarked: “Due to global warming, weather events are increasingly unpredictable. Therefore, training and preparedness are essential to mitigate any disaster.”
Going beyond protocol, he also made a personal connection by sharing his personal mobile number with the volunteers, urging them to reach out immediately if they come across individuals involved in opium use or drug abuse in their communities.
The training marks a sustained effort to cultivate resilience at the grassroots level, empowering local volunteers to act swiftly during emergencies.
The training concluded with distribution of ID cards, first Aid Kits, ID Cards, uniforms and basic volunteer kits to participants.
