New Delhi, Jan 10: Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Chowna Mein today attended the Pre Budget Consultation meeting for the forthcoming Union Budget 2026-27, chaired by Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman and co-chaired by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in New Delhi.
The meeting was attended by Governors, Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers and Finance Ministers of States and Union Territories, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Finance, to deliberate on priorities, fiscal considerations and policy inputs for the formulation of the Union Budget 2026-27.
During the consultation, Mein highlighted that despite its remoteness and long standing developmental constraints, Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed significant progress in recent years and continues to maintain fiscal discipline in line with the Arunachal Pradesh Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act 2006, with timely fulfillment of all committed liabilities.
He placed before the Union Government selected priority infrastructure requirements of Arunachal Pradesh, including urban infrastructure projects such as augmentation of water supply and drainage systems in Itanagar and other urban areas, and the strategic Rupai to Wakro Parashuram Kund railway line. He highlighted that the railway project will significantly strengthen connectivity, bolster border infrastructure and promote religious tourism in the State, and informed that it has already received clearance from the Ministry of Defence.
The Deputy CM also drew attention to the limited access of the State to Externally Aided Projects and emphasized the need for continued support from the Union Government to bridge resource gaps and sustain the current development momentum.
The Deputy CM reiterated the State Government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and constructive engagement with the Union Government to accelerate inclusive and sustainable development in Arunachal Pradesh.
