Deomali, Aug 5: A coordination meeting was convened at the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Deomali, to address the growing concerns over human-elephant conflict in the region. The meeting was chaired by ADC,Deomali B. Tawsik, and attended by officials from the Forest Department, local administration, Panchayati Raj leaders, police, GBs, village chiefs, and public representatives of the Deomali area.
The meeting thoroughly discussed the alarming rise in incidents involving wild elephants, which have tragically resulted in the loss of at least three lives within the past month in the Deomali Subdivision.
After threadbare discussion, it was decided to bring in wildlife experts to identify and manage the rogue elephant(s) responsible. A proposal to establish a Wildlife Department branch in Deomali and organising awareness camps at the village level to educate people on animal behaviour and safety measures. Forming a Rapid Action Group to respond swiftly to any future incidents was also taken.
The meeting was attended by CCF (Southern Circle) Chimoy Simai, IFS; DFO and RFO; ZPMs of Deomali and Soha; OC Deomali; and other community leaders.
