NAMSAI, Jul 25: In a continued effort to uphold regulatory compliance and public safety, a joint surprise market inspection was conducted today in Namsai township as part of the second phase of enforcement operations. The inspection was carried out by a coordinated team comprising officers and officials from the Departments of Trade and Commerce, Legal Metrology, Health and Family Welfare, Tax & Excise, Veterinary, Urban Development (UD), and the Police.
During the rigorous inspection, several violations of statutory norms were uncovered, 10 establishments were penalized for operating without valid trade licenses, in violation of the notification dated July 29, 2009.
1 case was booked under Section 24 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, for using unverified weights in commercial transactions.
3 cases were registered under Section 18(1) of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, and the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, for selling packaged items without mandatory declarations such as MRP and manufacturing/packing dates.
4 shopkeepers were found selling food items without a valid FSSAI licence, posing potential health risks to consumers.
In addition to regulatory checks, Inner Line Permits (ILPs) of shopkeepers were also verified. The inspection team also emphasized the importance of hygiene and advised all commercial establishments to maintain cleanliness in and around their premises.
Authorities have stated that similar surprise inspections will continue in the coming days to ensure strict enforcement of all applicable laws and regulations across the township. The public and business community have been urged to cooperate and maintain legal compliance for the welfare and safety of all.
