ITANAGAR, Mar 31: In a strong expression of distress, the All Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Contractual Drivers and MTS Union has raised its long-pending demand for salary enhancement and regularization, highlighting years of service with minimal financial growth.
The union, while addressing the media at the press club on Tuesday, stated that its members were appointed between 2009 and 2011 through proper recruitment processes, initially receiving a monthly salary of just ₹4,000. Even after 16–17 years of continuous service, their pay has risen to only around ₹10,000—an amount they say is far below basic livelihood standards in today’s economy.
Despite repeated representations, meetings with concerned authorities, and multiple file submissions over the years, the union claims their demands have been consistently rejected. As per the Finance Department’s response, there is currently no provision for pay enhancement or regularization of contractual employees, with such benefits limited only to contingency and regular staff.
Calling the decision “heartbreaking,” the union members expressed that their hopes had been shattered after years of waiting. Many workers say they are now struggling to meet even basic necessities such as food and medical expenses.
The union has made an urgent appeal to the state government to reconsider their case on humanitarian grounds and take immediate corrective steps. They also urged the public and civil society to support their cause and amplify their voices so that their plight reaches the highest authorities.
