Itanagar, Aug 30: Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta today visited the Oju Welfare Association (OWA) in Naharlagun and the Oju Mission School in Papu Nallah. He was accompanied by Mimum Tayeng, Commissioner (WCD), and Bullo Mamu, Secretary (Skill Development), along with officials from the Education and WCD Departments.
A key highlight of the visit was the distribution of certificates to the 9th batch of trainees who completed the Two-Month Basic Course in Cutting and Tailoring. The trainees included destitute women, widows, housewives, unemployed women, and school dropouts.
Addressing the trainees, the Chief Secretary praised their determination to overcome challenges and emphasized that skill development is a vital pathway to self-reliance and empowerment. He recalled the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, who advocated for self-sufficiency through skill acquisition. He further underlined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat can only be realised when women, youth, and marginalised sections are empowered with practical skills and opportunities.
At the Oju Welfare Association, the Chief Secretary was warmly received by Ratan Anya, Chairperson of OWA, and the staff members. He visited several key facilities, including the Oju Craft Centre Sales Emporium, Free Legal Aid Clinic, Special Unit for Special Needs Children, Boys’ Dormitory-cum-Recreational Room, Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA), Shakti Sadan, and the Girls’ Dormitory. He also interacted with beneficiaries at the Weaving-cum-Production Unit and the Cutting-cum-Tailoring Vocational Training Unit.
After his visit to OWA, the Chief Secretary proceeded to Oju Mission School, Papu Nallah. He was greeted with a Guard of Honour and engaged in discussions with students and faculty. During his tour of the Academic Building, Library, Smart Classroom, and Project Displays, he commended the efforts made by the school in providing holistic education and skills to its students.
In his message to the students, the Chief Secretary shared his own journey of coming from a humble background and studying in government schools. He emphasized that his life is a testament to the power of perseverance, discipline, and determination in overcoming obstacles. He encouraged the students to believe that their circumstances do not define their future, and that with hard work, values, and skills, they can achieve great success and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
The Chief Secretary also participated in a tree plantation program, themed “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” symbolizing a commitment to environmental responsibility. At the school auditorium, he was felicitated by the management and witnessed cultural, yoga, and karate demonstrations by the students.
Later, he donated a collection of educational books on various subjects and curriculum, including CBSE-related books, to the school.
The visit of the Chief Secretary reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to supporting institutions like Oju Welfare Association and Oju Mission School, which play a vital role in nurturing children, empowering women, and building an inclusive and self-reliant society.
