ITANAGAR, Sep 27: The Leil Tara Anyi-Berm Welfare Society (LTABWS) has voiced deep anguish, shock, and disappointment over the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Lishi Roni, the prime accused in the brutal 2020 murder case of late Techi Meena Lishi and her unborn child, a crime that had sent shockwaves across Arunachal Pradesh and beyond.
In a strongly worded statement during a press conference, the society condemned the bail order, describing it as a “serious blow to the pursuit of justice” and a move that could “undermine the faith of the people in the judicial system.”
The LTABWS members recalled that even Roni’s own family members — including his mother — had earlier opposed his bail plea, citing the gravity of the crime and the ongoing trial. However, the recent development where his mother herself petitioned for his bail has, according to the society, “raised disturbing questions” and “deepened suspicions of possible family involvement in shielding the accused from justice.”
Highlighting Roni’s criminal background, the society reminded that at the time of Techi Meena’s murder, he was already out on bail in a money-laundering case, proving a pattern of repeat offences and disregard for the law. LTABWS expressed grave concern that his release now poses a serious threat to witnesses and the integrity of the trial, warning that he could manipulate testimonies, tamper with crucial evidence, or even abscond to evade justice.
Calling the case “one of the most heinous crimes in the state’s recent memory,” the society urged the judiciary and law enforcement authorities to act with urgency and sensitivity.
The Leil Tara Anyi-Berm Welfare Society has made a three-point appeal to ensure that justice is not derailed that includes , Immediate cancellation of bail granted to Lishi Roni in view of the grave nature of the crime and potential risks, Fast-tracking of trial proceedings to deliver justice to the victim and her family without further delay and robust witness protection measures to prevent intimidation, manipulation, or any form of interference during the judicial process.
Reiterating its commitment to fight for justice for late Techi Meena and her unborn child, LTABWS urged the public, civil society groups, and women’s rights organisations to “stand united against any attempt to subvert justice in this case.”
