ITANAGAR, Jul 1: The Arunachal Pradesh Physical Education Association (APPEA) has reiterated its demand for immediate action on the long-pending recruitment of Physical Education Teachers (PETs) and District Sports Officers (DSOs) — posts that have remained vacant for years despite repeated government assurances.
Addressing the media, APPEA expressed deep frustration over the inordinate delay in recruiting for 60 sanctioned posts (30 PETs and 30 DSOs), a commitment made by the government as far back as 2017 and reiterated in 2018 and 2023. To date, no recruitment process has been initiated, leaving hundreds of professionally qualified candidates in limbo.
“We are not here to protest, but to seek justice, equity, and rightful recognition,” stated an APPEA spokesperson Hemant Gamre , underscoring the pivotal role PETs and DSOs play in shaping the sporting future of the state.
The Spokesperson also took a strong stance against the existing Recruitment Rules (RR), branding them as discriminatory and unjust. According to APPEA, the current system favors the “in-charge” promotion mechanism, which excludes highly qualified physical education graduates and postgraduates from fair competition. Instead, preference is given to diploma holders with limited academic and professional training—an approach the association says undermines the integrity and future of sports development in Arunachal Pradesh.
The association also criticized the RR framework for contradicting the recommendations of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), which advocates for professional, merit-based appointments in sports administration.
APPEA has been demanding, Immediate recruitment to all sanctioned PET and DSO posts, Cancellation of the “in-charge” appointment system, Reform of the RR to ensure fair and merit-based recruitment.
