Itanagar, Jan 15: Arunachal Pradesh is all set to receive a strong force of 152 trained NCC cadet volunteers, including 80 girl cadets, as first responders to disaster management eventualities, with the successful conclusion of the Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-157) cum Yuva Aapda Mitra (YAM) programme at Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), Itanagar. The camp was organised by 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion, National Cadet Corps (NCC) with a major emphasis on disaster preparedness and response.
The core focus of the camp was the Yuva Aapda Mitra training on disaster management and response systems, conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). Through intensive theoretical and practical sessions, SDMA resource persons trained the cadets in disaster preparedness, basic search and rescue techniques, first aid, casualty evacuation, and coordination with civil authorities. Special attention was given to managing region-specific disasters such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and cloudbursts, enabling cadets to act swiftly and effectively during emergencies.
Alongside the YAM component, the camp provided structured NCC training aimed at holistic development. Cadets underwent physical training, drill, weapon handling, field craft, and leadership exercises. Cultural activities, awareness programmes, and motivational lectures further reinforced the values of unity, discipline, national integration, and community service.
The camp culminated in a formal closing ceremony, where senior NCC officers and representatives of SDMA lauded the cadets for their discipline, commitment, and enthusiasm. Addressing the gathering, dignitaries highlighted the crucial role of trained youth in disaster risk reduction and strengthening community resilience, particularly in a disaster-prone state like Arunachal Pradesh.
With the successful completion of CATC-157, the trained Yuva Aapda Mitra cadets now stand ready to support civil authorities and local communities as competent first responders, reaffirming the NCC’s enduring commitment to nation-building and humanitarian service.
