ROING, Feb 3: In a tragic incident highlighting the growing human–wildlife conflict in Arunachal Pradesh, the mutilated body of Late Chikseng Manpang, a Head Constable (WT) of the Arunachal Pradesh Police, was recovered on Tuesday after he was mauled by a tiger near Mayudia Pass under the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary in Lower Dibang Valley district.
The deceased, a resident of Manfaiseng village under Namsai district, was returning home on his motorcycle after completing official duty at Mathu, Anini, where he had been deployed in connection with the Chief Minister’s visit and recent cabinet meeting. The fatal attack reportedly occurred late Monday night along the Mayudia stretch.
Confirming the incident, Roing MLA Mutchu Mithi stated that Manpang was traveling alone when the tiger attacked him. His mortal remains were later recovered the following morning, sending shockwaves across the region.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the frequent movement of Royal Bengal tigers along the roads near Mayudia Pass and the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary, raising serious concerns over commuter safety in the area.
In response, forest department teams from Namdapha Tiger Reserve and Itanagar have rushed to the site to track, restrain, and capture the tiger involved. The Divisional Forest Officer (Wildlife), Lower Dibang Valley, has been directed to take urgent measures, including relocation of the animal to a safer habitat to prevent further loss of life.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner, Lower Dibang Valley, has issued an advisory for commuters, urging people traveling through the Mayudia stretch to exercise extreme caution, avoid night travel, and strictly follow instructions issued by forest and district authorities until the situation normalizes.
