Naharlagun, Aug 9: The Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences today hosted the second lecture series of the APLA@50 Outreach Connect at the New Academic Building. The session was a continuation of the APLA@50 Outreach connect that held its curtain raiser at Rajiv Gandhi University. The Outreach Connect initiative aims to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly while promoting civic awareness and active citizenship across the state. The programme brought together dignitaries, faculty, students, and officials to foster awareness on India’s democratic ethos and constitutional values.
The event was attended by an esteemed gathering, including Tesam Pongte, Speaker, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly; Kardo Nyigyor, Deputy Speaker, APLA; Techi Kaso, MLA of 13th Itanagar Assembly Constituency; Prof. Nabam Nakha Hina, Department of Political Science, RGU; Dr. Shyamal Kumar Bhattacharya, Dean & Principal of TRIHMS and Khangshung Jugli, Joint Secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
The event commenced with the National Anthem, followed by a welcome address Dr. Shyamal Kumar Bhattacharya, Dean & Principal of TRIHMS, who gave a brief overview of the programme and its objectives. He emphasised the importance of engaging the youth in understanding the constitutional framework of the nation.
Kardo Nyigyor, Deputy Speaker, APLA, addressed the gathering and highlighted the core motive of the programme to connect with students and young citizens, instilling in them a sense of duty alongside their constitutional rights.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Nabam Nakha Hina, Department of Political Science, RGU, reflected on the ancient roots of democracy in India. He remarked, “No right is absolute. Duty is always in parallel with right.” Prof. Hina elaborated on the history of India as a democratic nation and described the transition to democracy. He further emphasised how the youth can play a vital role in upholding these values, contributing meaningfully to the nation’s democratic journey.
The programme concluded with an address by Chief Guest Tesam Pongte, who recounted the history of India as a democratic nation, outlined its transition to democracy, and highlighted how the Indian Constitution has enabled the country to stand tall among the world’s nations, serving as a beacon of democratic principles. He also urged the youth to contribute actively towards preserving and strengthening these democratic ideals. He also highlighted that Arunachal Pradesh has embraced democracy, and that the young doctor trainees could contribute to this endeavour by serving in every nook and corner of the state. It was further stated that, in doing so, they would be performing their duties, and that they could also join various administrative services to provide their inputs as medical practitioners therein.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Khangshung Jugli, Joint Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries, organisers, and participants for making the event a success. He appreciated the insightful addresses delivered during the programme and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to engaging with the youth through such initiatives. Jugli also acknowledged the efforts of TRIHMS and Rajiv Gandhi University in hosting the lecture series and emphasised the importance of continued collaboration to promote constitutional awareness.
