ITANAGAR, Jan 22: Continuing with its protests against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the All Arunachal Tribal Students’ Union (AATSU) today organized a sit-in dharna here at Tennis Court.
Holding placards and banners, agitating protesters shouted slogans against the government demanding an immediate rollback of CAA.
Speaking to reporters, President AATSU Techi Baba informed that they will continue with their protest till the government withdraws CAA. “Though the central government has assured that CAA will not affect Arunachal, AATSU wants to clarify that in the long run it will definitely affect the state and its indigenous people,” he added. Elaborating on ILP, Babu stated that ILP mechanism is a total failure in Arunachal and hence we urge the government to bring resolution for changes in Article 371 to place the state under Article 371 (A) instead of the existing Article 371(H) like other Northeast states.
When asked about their reaction to the Supreme Court’s Wednesday decision on CAA, Baba categorically said that they will continue their protest until the central government rollback the CAA completely. He further slammed Chief Minister Pema Khandu and MoS Kiren Rijiju for being mute spectators on the issue.
“Delay tactics won’t work here and we won’t stop here until our demands get fulfilled,” Assistant General Secretary of United Arunachal Indigenous Peoples' Forum, August Sono Fasang said. He further urged the state government to stress on bringing the clause of ILP in CAA.
“I appeal to every indigenous people in the state to be alert, awake and stand united against the contentious CAA,” he added.
