Itanagar, Aug 12: The Arunachal Frontier Tribal Front (AFTF) has levelled serious allegations of large-scale irregularities in the Arunachal Engineering (AE) Civil Services preliminary examination, conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) on June 27 for 166 engineering posts across departments.
Speaking at a press conference, AFTF president Tadak Nalo, representing aggrieved candidates, claimed that the prelims were “riddled with anomalies” that deprived hundreds of aspirants of a fair chance to compete in the mains.
According to Nalo, the three-stage recruitment process — prelims, mains, and viva voce — was compromised from the outset. He pointed out that while the July 30 results declared 1,205 candidates qualified for the mains, a closer inspection revealed 362 duplicate roll numbers on the list. “This means 362 deserving candidates lost their rightful seats,” he said.
The AFTF also accused the commission of violating its own 2024 examination manual, which mandates a 1:12 selection ratio. For 166 posts, 1,992 candidates should have qualified, but the declared list had only 1,947 — already 45 short. “If we remove the duplicate entries, the shortfall becomes 407,” Nalo asserted.
Another major concern was the “premature” department-wise allocation of candidates. As per recruitment norms, such segregation should occur only after the final selection. “Civil engineering aspirants are eligible for seven departments, but the early segregation unfairly disqualified many,” he alleged.
Additional lapses cited by AFTF included irregular distribution of admit cards, instances where roll numbers of absent candidates appeared in the results, and the unusually short 35-day gap allowed for mains preparation — far less than the standard 75 days.
Nalo said the party had raised these concerns with the APPSC chairman and secretary but found the response unsatisfactory. “The grievance redressal cell exists only on paper,” he claimed. AFTF has since submitted a memorandum to the Governor and Chief Minister, urging immediate corrective measures to safeguard fairness in the recruitment process.
