ITANAGAR, May 27:  The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has launched a state-wide campaign titled “Operation Clean Drive”, a 30-day initiative aimed at pressing for the identification and removal of individuals the union alleges to be illegal immigrants, specifically Bangladeshi nationals and members of the Chakma-Hajong communities.
Speaking to the media, General Secretary AAPSU,  Ritum Tali stated ‘as part of the campaign, AAPSU has announced its intention to conduct rallies across all districts of Arunachal Pradesh.’ The student body claims that the campaign aligns with a recent directive issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which has called upon all states and Union Territories to verify the citizenship status of individuals suspected to have entered India illegally from Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Tali further stated that the campaign will operate within this 30-day verification window and has urged local administrations to take decisive steps in response to the MHA’s directive. The union has long maintained a strong stance on what it views as illegal settlement issues in the state.
This time we want final resolution on Chakma-Hajong refugees issues. These communities is now dominating local indigenous people in Changlang district. They need to be confined in their settlement area. There should be proper checking of illegal immigrants, added General Secretary AAPSU.
