ITANAGAR, Aug 12: The State Central Library, Itanagar, under the Department of Public Libraries, today joined the rest of the country in celebrating National Librarian’s Day to mark the birth anniversary of Dr S R Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, who revolutionised the library movement in the country.
Attending as the chief guest, Secretary, Department of Public Libraries, Mamata Riba, lauded librarians for their invaluable contribution to society, particularly in guiding youth towards education, knowledge enrichment, and overall development.
The Secretary commended the team led by Director of Public Libraries, Yanga Rigia Ete, for working towards improving library services and expressed hope that the State Central Library would one day become a hub for discussion, innovation, and publishing.
Riba also informed that the Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation has invited participants for a library capacity building training programme, encouraging volunteers to join for
personal development. She further urged everyone to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and share selfies with the national flag.
Also present on the occasion was Joram Nagu, Under Secretary (Public Libraries).
The event featured Dr Dharmeshwari Lourembam, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, Rajiv Gandhi University, and psychologist Dr Teeyir, currently serving as a project research scientist for the Indian Council of Medical Research at the Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, RGU, as resource persons, delivering a session on job stress management.
Earlier, the department felicitated librarians from various institutions across the Itanagar Capital Region.
