All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) on Monday announced a 36-hour bandh call in the Itanagar Capital Region beginning January 13. This comes following the expiry of its ultimatum seeking clarification from Chief Minister Pema Khandu on allegation of corruption. The Association has alleged Khandu and his relatives of being involved in a multi-crore scam. It also alleged that the CM misused funds allotted to various departments.
The allegations levelled is serious and the government must clarify on the matter. It is exactly a month today since the youth body make the allegations on December 10th last year. Since the question is directed towards the highest chair, it cannot be left unaddressed.
While the state government has some face saving exercise to do, the economic and social implications of bandh calls must also be kept in mind. A 36-hour bandh will derail normal life in the Itanagar Capital Region and affect thousands who work daily for a living. The Covid pandemic for the last two years has had huge financial ramifications on the lives of the general public. It is only in the last few months that a semblance of normalcy returned but again another Covid wave is already knocking at the door. Each time a bandh is called it is the ordinary man who gets victimised. A bandh call hurts every time but it will do so even more now.
