Eastern Sentinel Arunachal News

NDTV’s news story on China’s border village within Shi Yomi district is a wake up call for the Ostrich-like Indian authorities who have been consoling themselves whilst living in denial despite repeated “call out” by Arunachal Pradesh MP (Eastern Parliament) Tapir Gao in the hallowed halls of Parliament. Just as Gao predicted in the floor of Parliament, Doklam-2 is happening.
History bears testimony that 1962 war happened in the backdrop of Pandit Nehru’s “Hindi-Chini Bhai-Bhai diplomacy”.  Appalling is the fact that such developments  are emerging in the backdrop of series of military and diplomatic engagements between two nations.
Are we on the cusp of history being repeated?
Not sure but there is a pattern which is a grim reminder of 1962 debacle.  In 1962, Chinese  attack came through four directions- Walong,  Tawang-Bomdila, Limeking-Taksing and  Mechuka-Tato (now in Shi Yomi district) . Satellite images confirm that  of these four, two locations have been secured by Xi Jinping’s regime: latest in Mechuka sector and first one was in Limeking-Taksing sector.
Taking cover of contention over ground realities about  LoC or LAC and of confusion over watershed principle and of history won’t serve any purpose lest incumbent in New Delhi does a reality check on its border management initiatives.
Low density of population in Arunachal Pradesh coupled with migration away from border villages for want of modern facilities; mismanagement of Border Area Development Programme funds over the years and  slow progress of border road projects by BRO are few pressing issues. These are tactical in nature. What we need are strategic “big ticket” projects on border management now!
