ITANAGAR, Mar 3:
State Education Minister, Honchun Ngandam while attending as chief guest on “Losar festival” at Nyokum Lapang ground has emphasized on preserving the age-old rich culture and traditions including tribal languages from extinction.
“Though it is necessary to adopt other cultures or religions to cope with the modern world but efforts should be made simultaneously to preserve one's own rich tradition and culture,” the Education Minister opined.
“Loss of culture is the greatest loss any society can suffer and without culture and tradition no society or individual can exist in this world,” he pointed out while exhorting the young generation to shoulder the responsibility.
Lauding the Buddhist community residing in Tawang, West Kameng and other parts of the state for their hospitality and peaceful existence, the Minister stated that the other tribes can learn from them.
Stressing on the importance of language, he said that knowing other languages is excellent as it connects people but one should not forget their own language as it identifies ‘who you are and where you belong to.’
Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex Itanagar, Prince Dhawan, who attended as guest of honour, also advocated for preservation and promotion of age-old culture and tradition.
While extending Losar wishes, Dhawan said that ‘Losar’ being the new year of Buddhist community should be a great time to adopt new resolution for peace, prosperity and enterprise. He also called upon the people to maintain cleanliness and shun violence to make this beautiful state a better place to live in.
Colourful cultural programmes performed by various cultural troupes including neighbouring country Bhutan besides distribution of prizes for various competitions such as volleyball, archery marked the first day of the celebration.
