Yingkiong, Jan 20: The 12th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has initiated a 15-day familiarization exercise in Upper Siang District. The programme, spearheaded by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), includes a School Safety Programme (SSP) and a Community Awareness Programme (CAP) aimed at enhancing disaster resilience among students, teachers and the local community.
The exercise began today with a School Safety Programme conducted at Pedong Nane School, Yingkiong. The programme, facilitated by the NDRF team, targeted students and teachers, focusing on building awareness and imparting essential disaster management skills.
The NDRF team elaborated on disaster scenarios such as earthquake, flood, and fire incidents, and how to respond effectively.
Demonstrations included basic life-saving techniques, such as CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), first aid, and fire safety measures. Evacuation drills were conducted to familiarize students with safe practices during emergencies.
Anie Yangfo, DDMO, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of preparedness at the school and community levels. As the Nodal Officer, she is ensuring seamless coordination between the NDRF and local stakeholders, including schools and community leaders. She highlighted the long-term benefits of such programmes in building a disaster-resilient district and expressed gratitude to the NDRF for their dedicated efforts.
The DDMO also informed that the familiarization exercise will continue with School Safety Programmes in various schools across Upper Siang District and Community Awareness Programmes targeting local communities to enhance their knowledge of disaster management and response mechanism.
